The Florida BBQ Association (FBA) sanctions competitions to provide a consistent manner in which to preside over the event and make sure that everything runs smoothly and that competitors are judged fairly and equally.
Additionally, FBA selects one contest as its’ State Championship event, which enables automatic qualifications by winners for national level competition events.
For anyone interested in organizing a BBQ contest to be sanctioned by the FBA, the Organizer’s Manual is the ideal place to learn all about running an event. The Organizer’s Manual can be downloaded from here: Organizer Manual
Dates to keep in mind when selecting a date for your contest include:
- Consult the FBA Event Calendar to find dates that are not already reserved for other contests.
- Contests may be sanctioned on the same date only if they are separated by at least 200 miles.
- The date of any FBA State Championship is not available for any other contest in that state.
- FBA Fun cook and General Meeting scheduled dates are not available to schedule regular contests.
- The following are not FBA Sanctioned contests; however, they may draw FBA teams:
- The American Royal - 3rd weekend in September
- Jack Daniels World Championship – 2nd weekend in October
